Apple has confirmed that its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 will kick off on 8th June. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared several details about the forthcoming iOS and iPadOS 27 updates. Among these, a standalone Siri app is a standout feature. Described as a ChatGPT and Claude-style chatbot, this app is designed to be a versatile tool for a wide range of tasks. The app will maintain a record of past user conversations and is reportedly set to be ad-free, with an option for auto-deleting chats.

Apple’s long-standing commitment to user privacy has led to delays in the development of its AI assistant. The company aims to handle user data on its own servers. The new Siri is reported to be based on Apple Foundation Models, but with Google Gemini handling the heavy lifting. This means that user data security for more demanding AI tasks will be managed by Google.
Elsewhere, iOS 27 is expected to introduce new system-wide AI writing tools. These tools are set to be more capable than the current Apple Intelligence options. Apple is reportedly testing a “Write With Siri” toggle at the top of the keyboard. This feature will provide suggestions and grammar checking capabilities. Users will have the option to approve or ignore typing changes and navigate between flagged text selections. Additionally, there will be a “Help Me Write” option when Siri is activated inside an open text field.

Apple is also developing system-wide shortcuts using natural language, new AI wallpaper generation, and several editing tools inside the Photos app. The Shortcuts app is also getting an overhaul, with the ability to create actions from user prompts.
