Ubisoft’s upcoming remake, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, will offer players the option to completely disable the HUD at will. In a new gameplay clip, Ubisoft revealed that players will be able to turn off the HUD with a single button press, without needing to open any menus. This feature allows for a more immersive experience, letting players fully engage with the game’s world.
The option has been met with praise, as Ubisoft games can sometimes clutter the screen with numerous icons. These include health bars, weapon and throwable indicators, and the map, which can distract from the gameplay experience.
To our explorers, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature an option to seamlessly hide the HUD in-game with the press of a button 🤝
This option provides players the chance to remove all of those icons and fully embrace the grand, beautiful open world that Ubisoft is creating. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is one of the most beloved games in the franchise, in part due to its world. Players can explore the seas by ship and venture off to varied and exotic locations, making for one of the more unique settings in any game in the franchise. However, the immersion can be lost if the player is overwhelmed by HUD icons.
This feature is just one of many small but meaningful quality-of-life improvements in Black Flag Resynced. Players will also be able to adjust Edward Kenway’s hood whenever they like, unlike the original game, where the hood was raised or lowered based on specific circumstances. Ubisoft appears to be focusing on a more immersive experience with this new game, a direction that fans seem to find appealing, based on the replies to Ubisoft’s post.
Games have been trying to strike the right balance with the HUD for a while. It is one of the most important elements of a game, but some players do not require it or want it. Some games, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, activate the HUD only during combat, and it fades away when exploring. Other games, like Red Dead Redemption 2, give players more control, allowing them to have the full HUD at all times, no HUD, or a more minimalist option that only shows the absolute essentials.
Black Flag Resynced will give players plenty of control over how they want the HUD to appear, which is a major win for fans. It remains to be seen how the full version of Black Flag Resynced will be received but, so far, it appears to be winning over a lot of people with its many changes and improvements. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will be released on 9 July for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
