Last Updated: December 27, 2020

343 Industries had promised news of Halo Infinite before the end of the year, and it was finally through a blog post that the studio took the floor, confirming a new release period for the game: the fall 2021.

It was Joseph Staten, current Creative Director of Halo Infinite, who made the announcement on the Halowaypoint website. Called in to reinforce the project last August, he was notably responsible for writing and directing the cutscenes for the first three episodes of the franchise. He explains that in his first week at 343 Industries, he twice completed the game’s entire campaign: “Infinite is by far the largest and most vertical Halo world that has ever existed. The team. has understood that wonder and freedom are the keys to the Halo experience (…) It is the Halo that we imagined in 2000 and which finally comes to life, after 20 years of technical and creative innovation “, He said.

He then gave the floor to several members of 343 Industries, who gave some details on the changes made since the July presentation. They admit that this demo, whose objective was above all to show the gameplay, did not live up to expectations from a visual point of view: “visual fidelity is a very important objective for Halo Infinite. The teams Graphics and art continually strive, and work closely with each other, to create the most beautiful Halo game ever, ”said Ani Shastry, Graphics Development Manager. They even evoke the famous Craig, whose face “frozen and lifeless” has become a “meme”. In the demo, the facial animation of the PnJ was not fully implemented, and improvements have been made on this point since, but also on the global lighting, the shadows, the sky, the ambient occlusion or the volumetric lighting.

If the July demo showed the campaign and its open environments, this blog post also serves to address multiplayer, which, let us remember, that it will be free-to-play. A first map is presented below, as well as various armors. We are promised an absence of loot boxes, limited-time events, more rewards for the most invested players compared to Halo 5, as well as varied customization options with a coating system on armor, weapons and even the vehicles.
