Bungie Unveils First Glimpse of Major Destiny 2 Update as Thank You to Players

Last Updated: May 30, 2026

Bungie is preparing to ship its final major content update for Destiny 2, and some fans already believe Monument of Triumph could rank among the game’s best patches in years.

The studio detailed the most significant changes coming to weapons, artifacts, and other systems in a Dev Insights blog post on May 30, just ahead of the June 9 release. That post arrived one day after another well-received Dev Insights article that confirmed additional changes due to arrive as players brace for the beginning of the end. Bungie announced plans to discontinue support for Destiny 2 last week, and the studio took a moment at the top of its latest post to address the community that has stuck with the franchise since its earliest days.

The message carried a bittersweet tone, directed at veterans who have played Destiny since the original launch in 2014 and at those preparing to jump into Monument of Triumph.

Every memory and every moment you’ve shared with us over the years has fueled our future. Every ounce of our June update is for you, and we hope you feel it as you continue to read through our insight articles and upcoming [This Week in Destiny articles], let alone when you’re playing the update with us on June 9.

Yeah, it’s a bit sappy and sentimental… but that’s how we’re feeling while reading all of your stories over the last week. We hope to keep building worlds to inspire friendship for years to come and truly couldn’t do it without you and your voices.

When June 9 arrives, players will see changes both minor and sweeping. Bungie is targeting some of the most-requested tweaks in the game’s recent history. Auto rifles will fire faster, jumping from 360 to 400 RPM. Seven Artifacts from past seasons are returning. Bungie principal comms manager Andy Dague, known online as dmg04, has confirmed Catalysts for every Exotic weapon. These are not simple number adjustments or minor system tweaks. They are changes that players have pushed for over months, in some cases years.

All of this will arrive alongside Monument of Triumph in June, but the community has already rendered its verdict. Weeks before this final major patch lands, Destiny 2 fans have voiced concerns about Bungie ending support, yet many now see Monument of Triumph as one of the strongest updates since the sequel launched in 2017.

One Reddit user reacted by saying, “They’re actually giving us everything we could want. Oh my god bruh.”

Another said, “This is going to be the best singular update in years. The devs were finally able to put on their chef hat and really cook after all this time.”

A third fan admitted to mixed feelings: “Hard to shake the ‘YOU COULD HAVE DONE THIS THE WHOLE TIME???’ feeling of every piece of news with this update but I’m not going to complain, community sentiment being at recent highs with this update is the only chance in hell we have of getting a D3.”

For now, Monument of Triumph appears poised to help Destiny 2 exit on a high note rather than spark a genuine revival, but that has not stopped players from attempting to revive Bungie’s sci-fi shooter franchise through grassroots efforts. Since the end-of-support announcement, fans have organized a petition that has reached more than 300,000 signatures at the time of publication, along with a community-driven server slam.

Bungie signaled back in February that this long-in-development update would center on quality-of-life improvements, though exactly how long today’s detailed changes have been planned remains unknown. Bloomberg has reported that Destiny 3 is not currently in active development. Bungie previously explored a ‘Destiny Infinity’ reboot before killing off Destiny 2, according to reports. With no sequel on the horizon and support for Destiny 2 winding down, Monument of Triumph may represent the last significant chapter for a franchise that has defined live-service gaming for more than a decade.
