Xiaomi 17T Debuts With 5x Periscope Zoom, Pro Variant Packs 7,000mAh Cell

Last Updated: May 28, 2026

Xiaomi is skipping the number 16 for its T-series lineup, just as it did with its flagship phones. The company unveiled two new models on May 28, 2026, the 17T and 17T Pro, which deliver the anticipated upgrades over the previous generation but also pack some surprisingly strong improvements.

The Xiaomi 17T brings a major camera upgrade with its new 50MP 5x/115mm periscope telephoto lens. That is a substantial jump from the 50MP 2x/46mm module found on last year’s 15T. The new periscope handles 10x “optical-grade” zoom through in-sensor zoom technology, and it can shoot tele-macro images from as close as 30cm. The rest of the camera setup includes a 12MP ultra-wide with a 120-degree field of view at 15mm, plus a 32MP selfie camera with a 90-degree field of view at 21mm.

The standard 17T has shrunk slightly compared to its predecessor, now carrying a 6.59-inch display rather than the 6.83-inch panel on the old 15T and the new 17T Pro. This 120Hz OLED screen runs at 1268p+ resolution and pushes peak brightness to 3,500 nits, managed through 3,840Hz PWM and DC dimming. As always for the T-series, the panel handles 12-bit color for 68 billion colors.

Thickness has increased to 8.2mm from 7.5mm, but the tradeoff is worthwhile. The 17T now houses a 6,500mAh battery, an 18% jump that adds 1,000mAh over the 15T. Wired charging reaches 67W through HyperCharge and 50W through USB PPS. The phone can also share power with other devices at 22.5W through reverse charging.

A Dimensity 8500 chipset runs the 17T, built on a 4nm process with an all-big CPU design using eight Cortex-A725 cores and a Mali-G720 MC8 GPU. Memory comes in at 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 9,600Mbps, paired with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Thermal management falls to the Xiaomi 3D IceLoop System, which includes a vapor chamber for heat dissipation.

The Xiaomi 17T is powered by the Dimensity 8500 with 3D IceLoop cooling

Testing of the 15T, which used the older Dimensity 8400, showed solid sustained performance. Xiaomi states the 8500 delivers a 25% improvement in peak GPU performance. For a sense of how the Dimensity 8400 to 8500 upgrade plays out in practice, our Xiaomi 17T Series Official Launch Date Announced, All Details coverage offers additional context on the chipset evolution.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro keeps the larger 6.83-inch form factor with another 12-bit OLED panel at 1280p+ resolution and 3,500 nits peak brightness. Two upgrades separate it from the standard 17T display. The refresh rate climbs to 144Hz from 120Hz, and the ultra-dim mode drops to 1 nit. Gorilla Glass 7i protects both screens.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro has a 6.83″ display and a 7,000mAh battery with 100W wired, 50W wireless charging

The Pro model measures 8.3mm thick, up from 8.0mm on the 15T Pro, and weighs 9g more. The reason is a silicon-carbon battery with 16% silicon content that pushes capacity to 7,000mAh. That is 27% more, or 1,500mAh additional, compared to the 15T Pro. Charging options expand to include 100W HyperCharge, 100W USB PPS, and 50W wireless charging.

Both the 17T and 17T Pro share identical telephoto, ultra-wide, and selfie cameras. Where they diverge is the main camera sensor. The Pro carries the 1/1.31-inch OmniVision Light Fusion 950, an updated version of the 15T Pro sensor, with 1.2µm pixels. The standard 17T uses the 1/1.55-inch Light Fusion 800 with smaller 1.0µm pixels.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro has a larger 1/1.31″ Light Fusion 950 sensor

Both main cameras shoot at 50MP and use Leica Summilux lenses with a 1G + 6P structure and optical image stabilization. Xiaomi added a new 4K 60fps recording mode with HDR10+ and Log options. Several new shooting modes also debut: Stage mode for photos and videos, Leica Live Moment, and Leica Live Portrait.

The Dimensity 9500 powers the 17T Pro, a 3nm chip that represents a more substantial leap over the 15T Pro. Xiaomi claims 32% faster single-core CPU performance and 33% faster GPU performance. This is matched with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 9,600Mbps and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.1. The 3D IceLoop cooling system carries over. Notably, there is no 16GB RAM option, just as there was not one for the 15T Pro. This appears to be deliberate product segmentation to keep the 17T Pro from stepping on the toes of the 17 Max and 17 Ultra.

Several other specs and distinctions are worth noting. Both phones ship with stereo speakers supporting Dolby Atmos, plus Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications. Neither includes a 3.5mm headphone jack. Both are dual-SIM devices, with eSIM available in select regions. Xiaomi Offline Communication is supported on both models.

Wireless connectivity differs between the two. The Pro gets Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 with Dual-Bluetooth capability. The standard 17T is limited to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0 without dual connectivity. NFC is present on both.

Color options for the 17T include Black, Deep Blue, and Deep Violet. The Pro expands that palette with Black, Blue, Violet, and Opal White.

Pricing starts at €750 for the base 12GB/256GB Xiaomi 17T, while the Xiaomi 17T Pro begins at €900 for the same memory configuration. The 15T and 15T Pro launched at €650 and €800 respectively, so buyers are looking at a €100 increase across the board. Xiaomi is bundling some trial subscriptions to soften the blow: three months of Google AI Pro with 5TB cloud storage, three months of YouTube Premium including YouTube Music, and four months of Spotify Premium.
