Report Says Apple to Add Google Cast to iOS 27

Last Updated: May 25, 2026

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce third-party AirPlay alternatives in the upcoming iOS 27, according to a new report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. The tech giant is expected to unveil this new operating system on 8 June.

Currently, iOS only supports Apple’s own AirPlay as a built-in streaming protocol at the system level. However, sources suggest that iOS 27 will include third-party options such as Google Cast. Users may even be able to set these alternatives as the default for wirelessly streaming content from their iPhones to speakers or TVs.

This development appears to be driven by the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Apple may be making these changes to comply with the latest requirements. However, it remains unclear whether these features will be available exclusively in the EU or globally. The company might find it easier to maintain a single code database rather than multiple versions, but this remains to be seen.
