LittleBigPlanet Studio Media Molecule Rumoured To Include ‘Open-World Content’ In Next Game

Last Updated: May 25, 2026

Sony’s Media Molecule, the studio behind LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, is reportedly developing a new game featuring open-world elements. According to a report from MP1st, details about this upcoming project were found on the resume of a current Media Molecule employee. The resume mentions that the studio is working on an unannounced title, which will include “open-world content.”

Fans hoping for a new LittleBigPlanet game may be disappointed, as the resume specifically states that this is a new intellectual property. This means that, while a new LittleBigPlanet game isn’t out of the question, it’s unlikely to be the studio’s next project.

The resume doesn’t provide many other details, but it does suggest that Media Molecule is aiming for a larger scale with this new game. The studio is known for its creative tools in games like LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, which allow players to create their own experiences.

Dreams, in particular, enabled players to create full games with unique mechanics and art styles. However, Media Molecule ended support for the game three years after its release.

Sumo Digital, not Media Molecule, developed LittleBigPlanet 3 and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. It’s possible that Sumo Digital could create another entry in the series in the future. However, Sackboy was removed from PlayStation Productions branding, which has led some to speculate that he may not return soon.

This new game from Media Molecule may have been in development as early as 2023. The studio mentioned in October of that year that it had spent the year transitioning to a new project. Unlike Dreams, which was a highly ambitious project, Media Molecule isn’t known for making AAA games that require a large budget and several years to produce. Depending on the scope of the game, we may hear more about it at the upcoming State of Play in June.

We’ll have to wait and see what this next game from Media Molecule will be. In the meantime, Sony is still working on the PlayStation 6, with the company stating earlier this month that it is still determining when the device will launch.
