OPPO Is Building a DJI Pocket Rival, Following Vivo Into the Gimbal Camera Market

OPPO is reportedly developing its own handheld gimbal camera, a device poised to challenge the portable shooting market dominated by the DJI Pocket series. The latest intelligence comes from Digital Chat Station, which clarified that this initiative is entirely distinct from a similar project currently underway at Vivo. The two Chinese tech giants are operating their camera divisions independently, with no shared development resources between the competing projects.

According to the tipster, OPPO’s upcoming handheld rig will feature a massive 200-megapixel sensor measuring 1/1.12 inches, paired with a flagship-tier chipset to ensure top-tier processing power. The device is expected to carry Hasselblad branding as part of a joint development deal, whereas Vivo’s competing product is rumored to feature Zeiss optics. A key differentiator for both cameras will be ecosystem-level sharing support, designed to allow seamless content transfer and editing across multiple devices.

This move marks another step in OPPO’s expanding hardware ambitions across various categories. The company recently unveiled the OPPO Pad 6, a rebranded tablet powered by a renamed chip, signaling a continued push into new form factors. Simultaneously, the firm is driving camera innovation with tests for a square matrix front camera intended for the Find X10 Pro Max. These developments align with broader industry trends where manufacturers are increasingly building dedicated hardware for content creators, a space where Vivo recently made headlines by unveiling the S60 and S60 Vitality Edition mid-range phones built for content creators. With rumors circulating about a potential 10,000 mAh battery beast for the A-Series lineup, it is clear that OPPO is prioritizing long-lasting power and advanced imaging capabilities to stay competitive.
