The first feature film by popular YouTuber Mark Fischbach, titled Iron Lung, is set to stream on YouTube from 31 May, reports Deadline. Fischbach, better known to his audience as Markiplier, announced the online premiere while speaking on a panel at Cannes.

The launch will be YouTube-only, with Fischbach describing the platform as his home.

“I’m pretty loyal to it,” he said.

Iron Lung was written, directed, edited, self-financed and starred in by Fischbach, after its theatrical run in January this year. The film adapts the 2022 video game created by David Szymanski, also responsible for titles such as Dusk and Gloomwood. It follows a prisoner sealed inside a submersible, forced to chart a blood-filled ocean on a barren moon after a mysterious event erased all stars and planets, leaving only those who were aboard space stations or spacecraft at the moment.

Critical reaction to the movie was mixed, yet it proved a box-office hit, pulling in more than $50 million against a $3 million budget.
