Arc Raiders has achieved impressive sales figures, with 16 million copies sold. The game’s developer, Embark, and publisher, Nexon, must be thrilled with this result. Nexon’s latest financial report described the game’s sales as “extraordinary”, highlighting its status as the company’s most successful new product release.
The game has now been out for six months, and despite some concerns about its player base, it remains one of the most popular games on Steam. Although the player numbers have decreased since its initial launch, the game still attracts a significant audience, with around 100,000 peak concurrent players on PC. It is worth noting that player numbers for console versions are not publicly available, as neither Sony nor Microsoft releases this information.
In a recent announcement, Embark revealed that Arc Raiders will receive only two major updates per year. This decision has sparked some controversy within the gaming community. The next update, Frozen Trail, is scheduled for release in October and will introduce new locations, enemies, and expansions to the game’s story and lore, as well as updates to the progression systems.
Embark explained the reasoning behind this decision, stating, “Going forward, we’ve made the decision to release major updates twice a year – larger in scale, more impactful, with the goal to genuinely change how you play the game.” The company also reassured players that a dedicated live service team will continue to run the game, providing regular live updates, balance fixes, bug fixes, store updates, and player events.
The additional development time will allow Embark to focus on the game’s health, including progression and economy balancing, fair play, and anti-cheat efforts. As the company noted, these elements are “foundational to the experience, especially in a game where every encounter and extraction matters.”
Nexon has high hopes for the October update, Frozen Trail, which is expected to “reshape” the game and attract both old and new players. The update will likely be a key factor in determining the game’s long-term success. In addition to Arc Raiders, Embark is also working on another live service shooter, The Finals, and has two new games in the early stages of development, according to Nexon.
Nexon’s financial report highlighted Arc Raiders’ potential, stating that the game is “now settling in with a large and deeply loyal player community.” The company believes that the Frozen Trail update will help reactivate users who have stopped playing the game and attract new players. With its dedicated player base and ongoing support from Embark, Arc Raiders is well-positioned for continued success.
