OPPO has unveiled two new smartphone models, the OPPO Reno 16 and the OPPO Reno 16 Pro. Both devices support 2G, 3G, 4G with bands 1, 3, and 8, as well as 5G connectivity. They run on Android with the ColorOS 16 operating system. The standard Reno 16 model features a 6.32-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2640 by 1216 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The screen offers 460 ppi density, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Typical brightness reaches 600 nits, while peak brightness can hit 1800 nits. In contrast, the OPPO Reno 16 Pro comes with a larger 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel. Its resolution is 2772 by 1272 pixels with a 19.6:9 aspect ratio and 450 ppi. This screen also supports a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Like the standard model, it achieves 600 nits typical brightness and 1800 nits maximum brightness.
Under the hood, the OPPO Reno 16 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super chipset built on a 4nm process. The OPPO Reno 16 Pro utilises the more advanced MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset, which is manufactured using a 3nm process. Memory configurations differ between the two models. The standard Reno 16 is available with 12GB of LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X RAM. The Pro model offers two variants, one with 16GB of LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X and another with 16GB of LPDDR5X. Storage options also vary. The standard unit provides 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Pro model offers 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage in the 16GB RAM version, while the 12GB RAM version comes with 256GB or 512GB. Both phones include two slots for nano-SIM cards.
The camera systems on both devices are robust. The main camera on the OPPO Reno 16 is a 200MP sensor with a 1/1.56-inch size, f/1.8 aperture, and an equivalent focal length of 24mm. It contains six lens elements, features autofocus, and includes optical image stabilisation. It can record video at 2160p resolution at 60fps. The wide-angle camera is 50MP with an f/2.0 aperture, 16mm equivalent focal length, and a 116-degree field of view. It also has six lens elements and autofocus. A periscope telephoto lens provides 50MP resolution with a 1/2.75-inch sensor, f/2.8 aperture, and an 80mm equivalent focal length offering 3.3x optical zoom. It has four lens elements, autofocus, and optical image stabilisation. The OPPO Reno 16 Pro shares the same main, wide-angle, and periscope camera specifications. The only difference is the main camera on the Pro model uses Gimbal OIS instead of standard OIS. Both phones feature a 50MP front-facing selfie camera located in a central hole punch. It has an f/2.0 aperture, 18mm equivalent focal length, five lens elements, autofocus, and supports 2160p video recording at 60fps.
Battery life is supported by a 6700mAh cell in the OPPO Reno 16 and a 7000mAh cell in the OPPO Reno 16 Pro. Charging capabilities include USB Type-C ports with 80W wired charging for both models. The OPPO Reno 16 Pro adds support for 50W wireless charging, whereas the standard model does not list wireless charging capability. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 on the standard model, while the Pro model upgrades to Wi-Fi 7. Both devices support GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, and QZSS satellite navigation systems. NFC is present on both models. Biometric security is handled by an in-display optical fingerprint scanner on both phones. Audio features are included, though specific speaker details are not listed. Both devices carry an IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance rating.
Dimensions and weight differ slightly between the two devices. The OPPO Reno 16 measures 151.21 by 72.42 by 8.20 to 8.36mm depending on the colourway, with a weight of 188g or 191g. The OPPO Reno 16 Pro is larger at 161.26 by 76.46 by 7.7 to 7.86mm depending on the colourway, weighing 205g or 208g. Pricing varies by storage capacity and model. The OPPO Reno 16 starts at 3499 yuan (approximately 455 euros / 490 dollars) for the base model and 3999 yuan (approximately 520 euros / 560 dollars) for higher storage. The OPPO Reno 16 Pro is available for 3899 yuan (approximately 507 euros / 546 dollars), 4299 yuan (approximately 559 euros / 602 dollars), or 4899 yuan (approximately 637 euros / 686 dollars). The 16GB RAM version starts at 4499 yuan (approximately 585 euros / 630 dollars) and goes up to 5299 yuan (approximately 689 euros / 742 dollars) for the top tier.
