Xiaomi has just lifted the veil on the Xiaomi Mi 11 at a conference in China. The smartphone is distinguished by the presence of a 120 Hz display, Snapdragon 888 SoC, MIUI 12.5 and and a triple photo sensor on the back. Price, technical sheet, release date … We will tell you everything about the new flagship of the Chinese brand.
As expected, it was during its Chinese conference on Monday, December 28 that Xiaomi lifted the veil on the Xiaomi Mi 11. The Chinese firm is trying to surpass its competitors by marketing the first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, the new chipset engraved in 5 nm from Qualcomm.
In the process, Xiaomi lifted the veil on MIUI 12.5, a new version of its Android overlay. This new iteration based on Android 11 comes preinstalled on the Mi 11.
The Mi 11 benefits from a completely new rear design
When we discover the Mi 11, the first element that we notice is undoubtedly the backside of the phone intended to accommodate the triple photosensors. This comes in the form of a small block with widely rounded edges. We have never seen such a design on a smartphone, and the result seems rather successful.
The device benefits from curved edges on both the front and the backsides. Xiaomi also seems to be returning to a more compact model than the Mi 10 or Mi 10T. The Mi 11 is only XX mm thick. The whole seems rather classy and resistant, Xiaomi having insisted on the fact that its smartphone takes advantage of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus technology during the presentation.
What are the Specs of the Xiaomi Mi 11?
The Mi 11 features a 6.8″ inch touch screen and is built around a 120 Hz OLED display with 2K definition. But one of the main strengths of the Mi 11 is undoubtedly being powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It is in fact the first smartphone to be equipped with Qualcomm’s new 2021 SoC.
The device is also supported by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. Finally, and as we could imagine, this model is compatible with 5G. And for even more speed, the device is also Wi-Fi 6E compatible.
In terms of autonomy, the Mi 11 benefits from a 4600 mAh battery, while the device takes advantage of 55W fast charging technology. Wireless charging is also very fast since it is 50W. Xiaomi announces a full charge in just 53 minutes.
For its part, the sound is powered by Harman Kardon stereo speakers. On the photo side, we have a 108 MP photosensor (f/1.85), a module dedicated to the 5 MP macro and a 13 MP sensor for the ultra-wide angle. On the front, the device has a 20-megapixel front camera.
Price and Release Date
Xiaomi is marketing the Mi 11 at a starting price of 3999 yuan for the 8GB/128GB version, which is $611, approximately. Globally, we expect a significantly higher price, even if it should not reach the price of the Mi 10 released in early 2020.
Here is the complete price list for the different versions of the device:
- 8GB / 128GB at 3999 yuan (around $611)
- 8GB / 256GB at 4,299 yuan (approximately $657)
- 12GB / 256GB at 4699 yuan (approximately $718)
As announced earlier, the Xiaomi Mi 11 box will not come with a charger. An approach was already undertaken by Apple with its range of iPhone 12, recently joined by Samsung and its Galaxy S21. But, because there is a big but: in China, Xiaomi sells two packs. One does not have a charger, while the other takes advantage of a GAN 55 W charger. And the good news is that both packs are marketed at the same price. Clearly, the Chinese manufacturer leaves the choice to the consumer to acquire or not the charger with his smartphone, without paying an additional cent.
Finally, note that Xiaomi has also planned a Special Edition whose particularity is to offer a striated back. For now, The manufacturer has not yet revealed the launch date or the price of its smartphone outside of China. Xiaomi is expected to announce a European global conference very soon.
