Xiaomi Is Building Its Own Privacy Display Rival, and It Is Not as Ominous as It Sounds

Samsung’s much-hyped Privacy Display innovation, which narrows viewing angles on the Galaxy S26 Ultra screen, has turned into a real headache for device owners. Literally. Now word is spreading online that Xiaomi is working on its own version of this feature. This development comes as Samsung continues to refine its ecosystem, recently rolling out the One UI 8.5 update to Galaxy Tab S11 and S11 Ultra, while also expanding S23 series availability to more regions.

According to leaker @heyitsyogesh, whose track record has drawn mixed reactions, Xiaomi intends to build a Privacy Display equivalent into the upcoming HyperOS 4 later this year. The Galaxy S26 Ultra achieves this through a screen built with a special pixel structure, so questions remain about how Xiaomi could replicate this hardware-driven capability through software alone. Industry analysts are watching closely as Xiaomi sees smartphone shipment dip in Q1 2026 despite rising average selling prices, suggesting the company is under pressure to innovate with new features to retain market share.

Sharp’s Colour Veil View software technology

Three theories are circulating regarding how this might work. One holds that Xiaomi has discovered Sharp’s Colour Veil View technology and plans to develop its own take that would outdo Samsung’s implementation. Another suggests Xiaomi phones would adjust viewing angles using the front camera to track the owner’s gaze angle. The third theory maintains Xiaomi is not developing anything of the sort, and no Privacy Display equivalent will surface in HyperOS 4 at all. These speculations arrive as the supply chain remains in flux, with BOE aiming to land a role in the Galaxy S27 OLED supply chain to meet future demand.
