Tom Kane, the prolific voice actor renowned for his role as Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has died at the age of 64.
Kane’s extensive career spanned across various projects, including Star Wars, Call of Duty, and a variety of animated series. His talent agency, Galactic Productions, confirmed his passing this morning.
From his unforgettable performances in Star Wars to countless animated series, documentaries, and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor, and heart to every role he touched,
the agency’s post read.
His voice became part of our lives, our memories, and the stories we carry with us. But beyond the incredible career was an extraordinary man. Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family of nine children – three biological and six welcomed through adoption and fostering. That compassion and generosity defined who he was just as much as his remarkable talent did. Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories, and love he gave to the world will live on forever.
While Kane is best known for his portrayal of Yoda, he also voiced several other iconic characters within the Star Wars franchise. These include Boba Fett, C-3P0, and Qui-Gon Jin, among others, in various animated shows, games, and films.
In addition to his work in Star Wars, Kane lent his voice to Takeo Masaki, one of the four main characters in Call of Duty‘s iconic Zombies mode. His career began in 1977 at the age of 15, but it was in the ’90s and early 2000s that he gained significant traction. During this period, he secured roles in popular animated series such as Spider-Man: The Animated Series, The Powerpuff Girls, and The Wild Thornberrys.
Kane’s voice was not only heard on television but also at Walt Disney World. He served as the announcer for the park’s monorail system and provided health and safety announcements following the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he was the announcer and narrator for numerous TV shows, including various Star Wars cartoons.
Unfortunately, Kane suffered a stroke in November 2020, which led to his early retirement in 2021. The actor struggled to speak and was therefore unable to continue his work.
