During the Cannes Film Festival this weekend, Sebastian Stan touched upon his involvement in The Batman: Part II while campaigning for his Palme d’Or-winning movie, Fjord.
Official confirmation regarding whether the actor portrays District Attorney Harvey Dent has yet to come from either Stan or director Matt Reeves. However, the actor informed reporters at Cannes that he undertakes “many roles in this one,” according to Deadline.
The vague remark regarding multiple roles implies that Dent will likely morph into his villainous alter ego, Two-Face, within The Batman: Part II. Previously, some fans speculated the transformation might wait until a potential third installment.
When queried about collaborating with the hair and makeup crews responsible for his Two-Face appearance, Stan offered a response.
I’m excited, I’m nervous and trying to keep surprising myself.
Although he did not answer the question directly, the comment does little to dampen the speculation that he portrays both Dent and Two-Face in the movie.
Following a recent cast reveal for The Batman: Part II, Reeves utilised a gif featuring Scarlett Johansson from the film Under the Skin, in which she portrays an alien hunting men. Viewers quickly noted that the image of a black-haired Johansson bore a striking resemblance to Harvey’s wife, Gilda Dent, from
, a classic comics run that saw Dent turn into Two-Face over the course of the story.
Reports indicate that second unit photography for The Batman: Part II is currently taking place in Liverpool, England. According to the BBC, “various vehicles have been spotted outside St George’s Hall and at Queensway Tunnel. The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands this week’s activity was part of a technical recce by the studio, rather than a full formal shoot.”
Footage circulating on social media recently showed a sequence featuring Robert Pattinson’s stunt double alongside several GCPD squad cars inside The Birkenhead Tunnel in Liverpool. Additional set photos have also exposed the new logo for the film.
The main production phase is scheduled to begin next month. Filming for The Batman: Part II will also take place in Glasgow, Scotland. The Glasgow City Council recently announced road restrictions for June, which are thought to be for the production of the Batman sequel. The 2022 version of The Batman similarly filmed in Liverpool and Glasgow to stand in for Gotham City.
Audiences can expect the film to arrive in cinemas on October 1, 2027.
