Vertu is doubling down on foldables. After the Quantum Flip, the luxury brand has rolled out the AlphaFold worldwide, marking its first entry into the book-style foldable category. The device brings the expected premium materials, but Vertu is pitching it primarily as a productivity tool powered by AI.
That productivity boost comes at a steep price. The base model starts at €6,271, and that is the affordable option. The Alligator Skin Gold & Diamond edition climbs to €31,179. Before diving into the leather, gold, and diamonds, though, the bigger question is what this AI actually does.
The AlphaFold features a 6.53-inch cover display and an 8.05-inch inner screen. Vertu argues that standard bar phones fall short when users are
“reviewing complex contracts, tracking multi-system operational dashboards or comparing balance sheets.”
The on-device Hermes AI agent handles much of that workload. It can review and summarize documents, coordinate more than 70 apps, and operate complex executive dashboards. More details on Hermes are available here.
When the AI hits its limits, buyers still have access to Vertu’s traditional 24/7 concierge service. Two-way satellite communication keeps the phone connected outside standard cell coverage, whether that means a yacht or a remote private compound.
The Vertu AlphaFold runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, not the newer Gen 5. An A5 chip adds a security layer by storing sensitive credentials and cryptographic keys in isolation. The system also includes guardrails, the AI cannot execute financial transfers or modify critical data without human sign-off.
Battery life comes from a 6,500mAh Silicon-Carbon cell rated for up to 28 hours under heavy use. The 65W charger restores 50% capacity in 20 minutes.
The rear camera array includes three sensors: a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a telephoto module.
Buyers can choose from several exterior finishes. Stitched calf leather comes in two colors. Alligator skin offers seven color options. Higher trims add solid 18K gold, brilliant-cut diamonds rated G color and VS grade or better, plus alligator skin. There is also a Himalaya Alligator Gold variant. The hinge cover carries a micro-engraved, hand-finished “Clous de Paris” pattern. The hinge mechanism uses titanium and liquid metal, which has become fairly standard for modern foldables, as has the UTG layer on the folding display.

The AlphaFold is listed on vertu.com for those interested or merely curious. The phone moved past its pre-order phase, which required a €1,823 deposit, and is now available for immediate purchase. That assumes a buyer can pull together roughly €6,271 without delay.
