Apple Working on New Anti-Snatch Feature for iPhones
Apple is reportedly developing a new security measure for iPhones designed to stop thieves in their tracks if someone attempts to snatch the device from a user’s hand. According to a fresh industry report from 9to5Mac, the feature would detect a sudden snatch and instantly lock the phone to block unauthorized access. This development comes as tech giants look for better ways to protect user data during physical thefts.

Apple’s planned safeguard would operate much like Android’s existing “Theft Detection Lock,” which uses motion sensors to spot abrupt movements typical of a theft attempt. Once the iPhone’s accelerometer senses a likely snatch, the device would automatically secure itself and require the owner’s passcode or biometric scan to regain access. This functionality aligns with broader efforts to enhance Apple security features across the ecosystem.
The company is also said to borrow protections from its “Stolen Device Protection” system to cut down on false alarms. Before locking, the phone would first check whether it is on a trusted Wi-Fi network at home or in a familiar location. If so, the auto-lock may be skipped to avoid locking the owner out by mistake. This logic is similar to other iPhone safety tools that prioritize user convenience while maintaining high security standards.
