The developer behind The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is updating the game’s minimum system requirements ahead of the next major content update . CD Projekt made the announcement in a blog post, explaining that the changes will ensure smooth performance and compatibility once the update goes live.
Starting with the next update, the game’s minimum requirements will change. The studio noted that the update reflects how hardware and software have evolved since the last revision.
The updated minimum requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8GB VRAM
- VRAM: 6 GB
- RAM: 12 GB
- Storage: 70 GB SSD
- OS: 64-bit Windows 11
CD Projekt explained that these changes are tied to broader shifts in technology and support. For example, Windows 11 will become the minimum required operating system for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 after Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. The studio stated, “Without ongoing security updates, official platform support, and continued GPU driver support, we will no longer test our games on Windows 10.”
The update also drops support for HDDs in favor of SSDs, which provide faster load times, smoother asset streaming, and better overall performance. The game will run exclusively on DirectX 12 to take advantage of modern hardware and ongoing technical improvements. Only processors and graphics cards with active Windows 11 driver support will be officially supported.
Players who cannot meet the new minimum requirements will still have the option to revert to an earlier version of the game. However, CD Projekt emphasized that only the latest version is fully supported, as it includes all the latest improvements, fixes, and changes.
No release date has been confirmed for the next The Witcher 3’s New Expansion, Songs of the Past, but CD Projekt confirmed today that a new expansion is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The expansion arrives 12 years after The Witcher 3 launched in 2015 and sold over 60 million copies. It also follows the second expansion, Blood and Wine, which released in 2016. The first expansion, Hearts of Stone, came out in October 2015.
