Tom Hardy’s future on MobLand is uncertain after reports of behind-the-scenes tensions with cast and crew.
Deadline, Variety, and Puck have reported that Hardy has not been asked to return for the upcoming Season 3 of the Paramount+ show. Some reports suggest that Hardy has been fired, while The Hollywood Reporter and TMZ indicate that his future on the show is uncertain, with discussions still ongoing about his potential departure.
Puck, which first reported the news, alleged that Hardy’s issues stemmed from clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser’s 101 Studios, as well as other crew members. The actor was frequently late to set, attempted to alter dialogue, and was reportedly unhappy with the show’s shift towards an ensemble production. When Butterworth threatened to quit, Paramount allegedly considered dropping Hardy instead.
The Paramount+ series features Hardy as fixer Harry Da Souza, alongside Pierce Brosnan (Conrad Harrigan), Joanne Froggatt (Jan Da Souza), Helen Mirren (Maeve Harrigan), Lara Pulver (Bella Harrigan), Geoff Bell (Richie Stevenson), and more. MobLand Season 1, which premiered in March 2025, focuses on Hardy’s character caught in the war between two London crime families. The show has been described as a battle between two warring London crime families, with Hardy’s character, Harry Da Souza, caught in the crossfire. The show’s premise, as described by Paramount, is as follows:
“MobLand is about the Harrigans and Stevensons, two warring London crime families who clash in a kill-or-be-killed battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives. Caught in the crossfire is Harry Da Souza (Hardy), the street-smart ‘fixer’ as dangerous as he is handsome, who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide. As kingdom goes up against kingdom, lines will be crossed – and the only saving grace is a bet-your-life guarantee: family above everything.”
The writer’s room for MobLand Season 3 is open, but Paramount has yet to confirm another batch of new episodes. Season 2 is expected to premiere before the end of the year, with Hardy’s work on those episodes already complete. It remains unclear how the show will handle his absence if he is removed.
These reports follow rumours that Hardy also caused trouble during the production of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Co-star Charlize Theron revealed that she “didn’t feel safe” while filming with him, with other accounts from Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road painting a similar picture.
