Huawei Unveils Chipset Behind MatePad Pro Max

Last Updated: May 20, 2026

Following the launch of the MatePad Pro Max earlier this month, Huawei has taken the unexpected step of disclosing the specific chipset driving the device. For seven years, since the imposition of US sanctions, the company has often been guarded regarding the exact silicon used in its hardware, meaning consumers have grown accustomed to a lack of transparency in this area.

During a recent HarmonyOS conference held in China, the manufacturer confirmed that the MatePad Pro Max utilises the Kirin T93 Pro SoC. While the company has provided the name, they have yet to offer any further technical specifications or details. Nevertheless, this represents a departure from their usual secrecy.

Speculation is growing among Chinese tipsters on Weibo, who suggest that the chip might actually be a Kirin 9030 Pro that lacks a mobile data component. The Kirin 9030 Pro currently serves as the flagship processor for the Mate 80 Pro Max, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate, and the Mate X7. If these rumours are correct, it suggests the MatePad Pro Max will offer high-end performance.

At the same conference, Huawei made the claim that the MatePad Pro Max delivers a 45% improvement in overall system performance. The company did not specify what this figure is being measured against, but attributed the boost to the new SoC, an efficient heat dissipation system, HarmonyOS 6, and the extensive HarmonyOS ecosystem. The exact way the ecosystem contributes to these performance gains remains unconfirmed.
