CD Projekt has revealed a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past. The announcement comes more than a decade after the original game’s release and follows two major expansions. Scheduled for a 2027 launch, Songs of the Past marks the third expansion for the critically acclaimed title, which sold over 60 million copies since its 2015 debut. The second expansion, Blood and Wine, arrived in 2016, while the first, Hearts of Stone, debuted in October 2015. In a statement to the press, CD Projekt confirmed it is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, a studio staffed by industry veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The company plans to share more details about Songs of the Past in late summer 2026.
The announcement follows weeks of speculation about a potential secret expansion. Rumors had circulated online for months, including one report suggesting the new content might feature a location inspired by the Dune universe. The news also comes one day after CD Projekt teased an official anniversary stream for Blood and Wine scheduled for May 28, fueling further expectations. The studio confirmed the expansion just before that stream began. For those interested in the game’s visual history, the official complete edition trailer provides a look at the next-gen updates that preceded this new chapter.
In a tweet posted on the official account, CD Projekt noted that new content for The Witcher 3 will require updated system requirements to “ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward.” These changes will take effect with the next update.
The studio added in a follow-up post regarding the timing of the announcement.
CD Projekt is juggling multiple major projects. Production on The Witcher 4 is underway, though the company has cautioned fans the game won’t launch before 2027. The studio also outlined an ambitious six-year roadmap that includes The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6.
While a new The Witcher 3 expansion is now confirmed, CD Projekt has ruled out additional downloadable content for Cyberpunk 2077. Fans hoping to return to Night City will need to wait for Cyberpunk 2, which is still years away. According to CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the sequel won’t arrive before 2030. Cyberpunk 2 is currently further behind The Witcher 4 in development. Despite the wait, the franchise remains strong, with preorder numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 exceeding any previous Witcher titles.
Fans of Cyberpunk won’t have to wait as long for new material outside the games. CD Projekt has scheduled a panel for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, where more details about the upcoming animated series will be revealed. The panel is set for July 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
