The Godfather series continues with Connie Corleone’s story in 2027

The Corleone saga moves forward with a new novel titled Connie, scheduled for publication in 2027.

Random House announced to the Associated Press that it has secured the rights to a Godfather story penned by best-selling author Adriana Trigiani. The book has received the blessing of Mario Puzo’s estate and will be told from the viewpoint of Don Vito Corleone’s only daughter.

“Connie is a novel about how a woman works to forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is, what she’s about, and how she should be treated,” Trigiani said in a statement.

The Godfather is perhaps best remembered as the film trilogy launched by director Francis Ford Coppola in the 1970s. While the movies remain some of the most quoted works in cinema history, the Corleone family’s origins lie in Mario Puzo’s 1969 crime novel, also called The Godfather.

Puzo continued the narrative with the sequel The Sicilian in 1984, and later titles such as The Godfather Returns, The Godfather’s Revenge and The Family Corleone appeared up to 2012. Connie will be only the third novel to earn official approval from the Puzo estate.

Trigiani will become the first woman to write an estate-approved entry in the series. How the story will expand on the character of Connie Corleone – portrayed by Talia Shire, Francis Coppola’s sister, in the films – remains to be seen.

“Adriana was knocked out when I told her that the character of Vito Corleone (played in the films by Brando and De Niro) was actually based on my grandmother. We talked about how the women ran both of our families, but behind the scenes. Adriana’s vision for Connie’s life blew us all away. I’m very pleased and excited to have her on board.”

The new volume is expected to hit shelves in the autumn of 2027.
