The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now available to rent or purchase from digital platforms like Prime Video. The film’s digital release was initially slated for 5 May, but like Project Hail Mary, it was pushed back to capitalise on its theatrical success. The delay is understandable, as the Mario Bros. sequel stands as the highest-grossing movie of 2026. If you missed the film in cinemas or are eager for a rewatch to spot all the Easter eggs, here’s everything we know about its digital, streaming, and DVD releases.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is priced at $24.99 to rent and $29.99 to buy. Renters have 48 hours to watch the movie from the start time, while buyers also receive over an hour of behind-the-scenes digital extras. Prime Video offers a bundle of both Super Mario movies for $39.99.
The sequel expands the universe of the first film to include, unsurprisingly, galaxies. New cast members were introduced to enrich the growing cast, including Brie Larson as Rosalina and Donald Glover as Yoshi. Nintendo kept a lid on one significant addition until the film’s premiere: Glen Powell’s role as Star Fox, which preceded the announcement of a Star Fox remake for the Switch 2.
Critics were less enamoured with the sequel than the original. However, Clint Gage’s review for IGN argues that it’s “bigger and shinier” and “racks up some extra lives by stuffing Easter eggs into the runtime to the point of bursting.” The original Super Mario Galaxy games, both of which were re-released on Switch consoles ahead of the movie, continue to garner praise.
The movie will be released in 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD in just over a month. It will also be available in a limited edition 4K steelbook styled after Rosalina’s Storybook. Peacock will be the first streaming service to host The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, although a specific release date has not yet been announced. Based on the timeline of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the sequel is expected to arrive on Peacock later this summer. After four months, the film will move to Netflix.
