Helium Mobile is changing owners. Noble Mobile has agreed to acquire the wireless carrier, which first entered the market in 2023 with an unusual hybrid approach to connectivity.
The company operated as a mobile virtual network operator running on T-Mobile’s infrastructure, but it also maintained a decentralized network built from more than 100,000 small cell towers operated by users across the country. That “people-powered” setup distinguished it from typical MVNOs.

Helium Mobile drew attention last year with its free Zero Plan, though that offering was shut down just weeks ago. The company also generated buzz around crypto rewards, a reflection of 2023’s cryptocurrency fervor before artificial intelligence became the dominant tech talking point. The Helium Mobile brand will survive the acquisition.
Noble Mobile has pledged to continue using the user-driven Helium Network, though the duration of that commitment remains unspecified. Helium Mobile has assured customers that the transition will involve no scrambling and no lost coverage. Subscribers will retain their phone numbers and, according to the company, can expect the same high-quality service they currently receive.
Following the sale, Helium Mobile’s founders are shifting their attention to a broader technical project. They plan to develop what they describe as an intelligent connectivity platform that takes everything the Helium Network has demonstrated and opens it up so any carrier or connected service can build on it, including Noble Mobile.
