Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 17 Max in China, a flagship smartphone designed as a more streamlined version of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. While it lacks the secondary rear display found on its more expensive sibling, it also features a slightly different camera setup. The new model includes a 200 MP main sensor with OIS, a 50 MP ultra-wide lens without autofocus, and a periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom instead of the 5x found on the Pro Max. Additionally, the device is equipped with a more basic 32 MP front-facing camera.
To compensate for the hardware changes, the device boasts a larger battery, which has been increased from 7500 mAh to 8000 mAh, alongside a more affordable price point. Performance remains top-tier, as the newcomer uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and 6.9 inch display as the 17 Pro Max. Charging capabilities are also consistent, supporting 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. Other notable features highlighted by Xiaomi include 1115X symmetric stereo speakers, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and IP68 water resistance.
The Xiaomi 17 Max is scheduled to hit Chinese retail shelves on 25 May. Pricing starts at 4799 yuan (approximately $665 or €615) for the 12/256 GB model, which makes it 300 yuan (around $42 or €38) more expensive than the compact Xiaomi 17, but 1200 yuan (around $168 or €155) cheaper than the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It will be available in blue, white, and black. Importantly for international users, the device supports the LTE bands required in Russia, specifically bands 1, 3, 7, 8, and 20. We shall have to wait and see if it arrives in Russia.
