Antony Starr shares spoiler-filled behind-the-scenes images as he bids farewell to Homelander in The Boys

Last Updated: May 23, 2026

With The Boys series now concluded, Antony Starr has used Instagram to say goodbye to his role as Homelander through a gallery full of spoilers.

Readers should be aware that the following details contain spoilers for the show’s final episode.

Starr spoke in the caption for the post, which begins with a clip of him removing the bloody makeup used during the Season 5 finale. In the text he wrote:

Ok I feel like spoilers aren’t really a thing now but…spoilers, Last [behind the scenes] from the epic conclusion of the trauma created baby man wrapped monster suit that was Homie. Love to all the cast, crew and fans. It’s been a hell of a ride. ox.

The complete update arrived only a few days after the violent conclusion aired earlier this week and is certainly full of secrets. Alongside the cathartic video, the actor shared 13 pictures of himself hanging out with colleagues such as Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie, Karl Urban, who portrays Butcher, and Karen Fukuhara, who is Kimiko, before production finished.

Viewers who watched the series finale on Prime Video or in cinemas will instantly spot the makeup Starr wears in the Instagram uploads. It matches the damaged appearance Homelander displayed when Butcher drove a crowbar into his head and split it open.

This was a brutal scene where the former all-powerful villain lost his abilities while the team dedicated to killing supers completed their objective. Off camera, however, the atmosphere remained cheerful. Several amusing shots from the gallery depict Starr fully dressed in Homelander costume while holding what appears to be a life-sized copy of himself after the crowbar incident.

Starr has portrayed the character since The Boys launched in 2019, navigating plots involving godhood and milk consumption. The subsequent years turned him into one of the most frequently memed figures in fiction, with even the controversial final season generating plenty of new Homelander images as the concluding episodes aired. As the actor says farewell to the role he helped create, supporters are struggling to move on.

It remains uncertain whether Starr will ever return to the role of Homelander. IGN awarded The Boys Season 5 finale a score of 8 out of 10 in the review. Although the extremely violent superhero drama has finished, its aesthetic and tone are expected to continue when the Vought Rising spin-off debuts in 2027.
