Later this year, the game Helldivers 2 will introduce a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond, fulfilling one of its most requested crossovers.
Since the game’s launch, fans of Warhammer 40,000 have speculated about a crossover. This is not surprising, as Helldivers 2 is a perfect match for a squad of four Guardsmen of the Astra Militarum fighting against the alien forces of the Automatons (Necrons) and the Terminids (Tyranids). Both Helldivers 2 and Warhammer 40,000 focus on soldiers doing the dirty work of a fascist regime, after all.
In a video, Helldivers 2 game director Mikael Eriksson stated that the two worlds “fit perfectly together,” and that Arrowhead is “full of die hard Warhammer fans.” The exact details of the Warbond are unknown, but more information is promised later this year.
Arrowhead is often asked about Warhammer 40,000 in interviews. In April last year, the production director on Helldivers 2, Alex Bolle, was asked about a Warhammer 40,000 collab, and he said there were discussions being had. “Obviously Warhammer 40,000 is something that a lot of guys internally love to death,” he said at the time. “So the devs are discussing, the devs are proposing stuff, and the hype is building. So these are discussions internally that we are having. Warhammer 40,000, I can’t really tell you. Maybe. Who knows? We’ll see!”
In 2024, Arrowhead’s Johan Pilestedt published an extended list of IPs he “really would love to do a take on,” and Warhammer 40,000 was right up there alongside the likes of Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Terminator.
