Google is set to open its first retail store outside the United States later this summer. The company confirmed that the new location will launch in Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan, occupying the first floor of the Omokado building inside Tokyu Plaza.

Shoppers will find Pixel smartphones, Nest smart home devices, Fitbit wearables, and various accessories on the shelves. The location will also showcase what Google calls “the latest AI experiences,” though the company did not elaborate on what that entails. The Tokyo store will double as a pickup location for orders placed through Google’s online store in Japan.

Trained staff will be on hand to assist customers with troubleshooting issues across Google’s product lineup. Visitors can also get Pixel phones repaired on site, plus help with initial device setup.

Japan carries special significance for Google. It was the first country where the company opened an office beyond U.S. borders. Google has expressed gratitude toward Japanese customers who have backed the company through the years. This Tokyo location looks to be the beginning of a broader international retail expansion.

The timing aligns with Google’s broader push to put AI directly into consumers’ hands. Recent moves include a Google search bar AI makeover, and the company continues weaving artificial intelligence throughout its hardware and services portfolio. Industry observers will likely hear more about how retail fits into this strategy when Google I/O 2026 takes place later this month.
