Apple’s Sports App Goes Global with FIFA World Cup 2026 Features

Apple has expanded the availability of its Sports app, launched in 2024, to over 170 countries and regions. This follows the app’s recent rollout in more than 90 new markets.

The tech giant is also enhancing support for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins on 11 June. Fans can now explore tournament groupings and personalise their scoreboards by following the entire event or their preferred national teams within the Apple Sports app.

When users follow a team, Live Activities are activated, displaying updates on their iPhone’s Lock Screen or Apple Watch. Additionally, widgets can be added to iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Home Screens to monitor the FIFA World Cup 2026 in real time.

Users of the Apple Sports app can also quickly switch to Apple TV with a single tap to access live matches on connected streaming services during the World Cup.

Apple has introduced several features to help users stay informed and engaged throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026:

  • Tournament bracket view: The clean, scrollable view of matchups and results for each round allows fans to easily track a team’s progression from the group stage through their final match.
  • Visual formations: Enhanced game cards feature visual formations for each team’s starting lineup to provide deeper tactical insight ahead of each match.
  • One tap to Apple News: Apple News connects fans directly to comprehensive editorial coverage, including the latest headlines.
