Box Office Update
Mortal Kombat II has brought in a total of $63 million globally during its opening weekend, with $40 million coming from domestic sales and $23 million from international sales. The movie was produced for $80 million, so it still has a way to go before turning a profit. However, Warner Bros has confirmed that a third film is in development.
Mortal Kombat II Performance
The movie is currently sitting on a 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. Mortal Kombat II’s release could not stop The Devil Wears Prada 2, which brought in $118.8 million during its second weekend. The Devil Wears Prada 2 remains the number one film domestically, internationally, and globally, with a total of $433.2 million worldwide.
Other Box Office Performers
Michael, the record-breaking biopic, continued to perform well at the box office, bringing in $95 million this weekend, and is now up to $577.3 million worldwide. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is on $941.2 million, and it is uncertain if it will cross the $1 billion barrier. Project Hail Mary is still hanging in there at the box office, bringing in a further $9.8 million during its eighth weekend, and is now up to $655.7 million worldwide.
Project Hail Mary’s Future
There is talk of turning Project Hail Mary into a franchise with a sequel, but author Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian, is said to be “in the driver’s seat”. Weir has ideas for sequels, but he is currently working on a new book that is not a sequel to any of his previous works. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Weir mentioned that he does not have a good enough idea for a sequel yet.

Mortal kombat 2 is really good. Enjoyed the movie.
