Devil May Cry on Netflix Wraps Up After Three Seasons

Adi Shankar has confirmed that Netflix’s Devil May Cry will conclude with a third season. The series showrunner explained in a statement that ending the show after three seasons was part of the original plan. He described the project as a movie trilogy that would take the shape of a television series.

For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.

Devil May Cry Season 2 arrived last month and drew a strong response from viewers. The sophomore season expanded dramatically in scope, with Shankar noting the leap between seasons is comparable to the evolution seen between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Season 2 is just way, way, way bigger in terms of scope and scale. So it’s the difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. That’s the comp. Or Halo 1 and Halo 2, where in terms of just scale and scope – orders of magnitude bigger and larger. And the tone is just completely different on top of that. The tone is very, very different, so it cuts deeper.

The question now is whether Season 3 will function as the show’s equivalent of The Dark Knight Rises. That film raised the stakes to catastrophic levels after Bane seized Gotham City and came close to obliterating it with a nuclear device. A literal nuke seems unlikely for Devil May Cry Season 3, though an apocalyptic danger that tests the heroes’ limits could fit the bill.

No information has surfaced yet regarding Season 3’s storyline or premiere window. Season 1 bowed in April 2025, which leaves open the possibility that the final season could land next spring. For now, fans can take some comfort in knowing the series will bow out on its own terms rather than linger past its natural endpoint. That approach may leave audiences eager for more rather than relieved to see it end.
