Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends Retold Gives Classic Platformer a 3D Makeover

Ubisoft has formally unveiled Rayman Legends Retold following details that leaked ahead of the official announcement. The upgraded platforming remake rebuilds the original sidescrolling stages with full 3D visuals and introduces brand-new 3D gameplay sections. Both features appeared in a reveal trailer during Sony’s major PlayStation State of Play presentation on June 2, 2026.

The game arrives October 1 on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S at a $39.99 price point.

The trailer also teased the reworked narrative, now featuring voiced cutscenes. Musical stages are making a comeback too, though the four new ones Ubisoft highlighted in a press release suggest changes from the original versions. Fans may notice the Black Betty stage is no longer included. On a brighter note, the addictive Kung Foot soccer minigame returns with fresh power-ups.

Rayman Legends Retold is our way of revisiting what makes Rayman so special, and re-telling that experience for a new generation of players. We wanted to preserve everything fans love, and Legends gave us the perfect foundation to expand Rayman’s lore, its world logic, and how everything connects together.

Those words came from Ubisoft brand producer Loïc Gounon.

Rayman Legends stands among the finest sidescrolling platformers outside Nintendo’s Mario franchise, and Ubisoft appears determined to breathe new life into it. Earlier leaks had pointed to planned crossovers with characters from Astro Bot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Despite prior speculation, multiplayer stays restricted to local play rather than expanding to online modes.

Ubisoft Montpellier leads development once again. The studio formerly operated under Rayman creator Michel Ancel, who departed to pursue work at a wildlife park.

The French publisher seems intent on restoring its platforming mascot after a lengthy absence from the spotlight. While earlier reports mentioned a Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition and a new project with Ancel, the studio is also looking to expand its broader portfolio. New Ubisoft titles for Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon are due before March 2029, the company has confirmed. This commitment to new content follows other major updates in the industry, such as when Rocket League Receives Visual Makeover Following Unreal Engine 6 Unveiling.
