Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple's CEO later this year, with the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, set to take over. However, the transition is accompanied by a significant restructuring of the company. The company announced that Johny Srouji will become the new Chief Hardware Officer. He will merge the hardware engineering and hardware technologies teams. This is the first major move in a large-scale reshuffle. Johny Srouji has already started reorganising the teams. Kate Bergeron, for example, will hand over main product design management to two of her deputies. She will oversee product reliability, taking on the role of Tom Marleb. Marleb will succeed John Ternus as head of the hardware engineering team. Additionally, Bergeron will continue overseeing the development of materials used by Apple. "This is supposed to speed up the process of development and innovation," the company said. "This is pursuing deeper integration between the Apple Silicon teams and the teams involved in developing individual products." The reshuffle is not limited to these changes. Many other staff members are seeing their responsibilities widened. Only time will tell how well the new team structure will work, but one thing is clear: Apple must act now, because product development has been painfully slow at Apple for the last few years.
