For more than four decades, Samsung has kept its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey, largely in Ridgefield Park. In 2024 the company announced a move to Englewood Cliffs, also in New Jersey, and now it is preparing to leave the state entirely.

According to the Korea Times, Samsung will shift its headquarters to Plano, Texas. Plano sits just north of Dallas and is roughly 200 miles from the company’s plant in Taylor.

The electronics giant has constructed several massive semiconductor fabs in Taylor and plans to add more. In 2024 it secured a €6.6 billion subsidy to broaden its foundry operations in Texas. Workers at Samsung’s Texas chip plant have approved a new labor deal that includes substantial bonuses. Samsung’s push in Texas also includes cutting-edge OLED technology; Samsung OLED displays with holes and stacked design confirmed for Ferrari Luce highlight the company’s expanding product portfolio.

Apple has been seeking to lessen its reliance on TSMC, while the U.S. government has been urging companies to bring manufacturing home. As a result, Apple has explored contracts with Intel and Samsung fabs, and Apple executives recently toured Samsung’s Texas foundry.

“We are preparing for the relocation with the goal of completing the move within this year. After a thorough review, we will finalize plans for headquarters operations and workforce allocation,” said an anonymous company official.

About 1,000 employees currently at Englewood Cliffs are expected to be reassigned to Plano, leaving only a small team in New Jersey to support local Samsung activities. Samsung rolls out the One UI 8.5 update to its Galaxy Tab lineup, reflecting ongoing product development.
