The Nintendo Switch 2 release date for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is locked in for September 18. Pre-orders are already live for the platform. Players can choose between a standard edition priced at $69.99 or a deluxe edition at $89.99, with the more expensive option packing in bonus digital content. Switch 2 buyers won’t get early access with the deluxe edition though, unlike those picking it up on Xbox, PS5, or PC. That means no reason to pay extra just to start playing sooner on Nintendo’s console. Recent reports indicate that the game has added Denuvo DRM just weeks before launch, adding another layer of security to the title.
The deluxe edition bundles in the Legacy Collection DLC, which adds fresh suits, vehicles, and Batcave decorations pulled from classic Batman properties including the Arkham series and Batman Beyond. Buyers also receive the Mayhem Collection DLC, launching the same day as the base game. This pack goes beyond cosmetics, unlocking Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters plus an additional story mission. Anyone who pre-orders the physical Switch 2 copy scores a LEGO Retro Video Game Batman minifigure as well.
Word that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight remains on track for Switch 2 comes as welcome news. The situation with Borderlands 4 had stirred unease, after its Switch 2 port was put on hold right before release. That move sparked questions about whether other titles might face similar trouble. With the release window filling up, it is worth noting that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has already launched on Nintendo Switch 2, ending its PlayStation exclusivity.
When Switch 2 did not get a day-one launch for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, some worried the game might follow the same path into indefinite limbo. That concern turned out to be unfounded. The timing is less than ideal though. September is stacking up with releases from multiple publishers looking to steer clear of GTA 6’s launch window, and this game is now part of that crowded rush. Meanwhile, Activision has confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with a DMZ mode and a specific Nintendo Switch 2 release date, further intensifying the competition this fall.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight ranked among the biggest launches this past May. It stood out as one of the most eagerly awaited spring titles and has drawn strong reactions since going live. Whether more LEGO Batman games are in development is still unknown. The previous entry, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, arrived back in 2014. LEGO DC Super-Villains followed as a spin-off in 2018, but the Dark Knight himself had not headlined a LEGO title in over ten years until this release. As the industry shifts toward new hardware, Star Fox returns June 25 as Nintendo bets on a cinematic Switch 2 remake to drive interest.
