Last Updated: May 26, 2026

New video clips from the forthcoming Harry Potter television show on HBO have confirmed that Game of Thrones actor Anton Lesser will portray the wandmaker Garrick Ollivander.

The experienced British performer has appeared in more than 100 films and television programmes. His notable roles include Qyburn in Game of Thrones, Harold Macmillan in The Crown, and Major Partagaz in the Star Wars show Andor.

Within the new HBO adaptation, Lesser assumes the significant part of Ollivander. This character supplies the young wizard with his wand and later returns to offer crucial details while Harry searches for the Deathly Hallows.

HBO Max released a promotional video highlighting upcoming content.

The promotional video from HBO features footage from other productions such as House of the Dragon, Stuart Saves the Universe, Lanterns, and The Gilded Age. Viewers can jump to the Harry Potter segment at the 1:15 mark within the video.

Ollivander delivers the famous line in a new clip.

Mr. Potter, I think we can expect great things from you.

He also says,

Let’s see who you are.

Other quick shots display Harry and his friends at Hogwarts, walking through the castle corridors before heading to a Quidditch match.

The late John Hurt previously portrayed the character of Ollivander across three films in the original Harry Potter movie series.

Work on writing the second season of the HBO Harry Potter show is currently in progress. Filming is scheduled to start later this year as the production team aims to maintain momentum, despite fan concerns that the series might not conclude until the early 2040s.

A recent leak of the set provided fans with a close view of the new Diagon Alley. HBO has acknowledged significant spending on the project, noting a financial commitment they would not usually undertake. The elaborate sets and props have attracted theft, leading to measures like microchipping broomsticks to prevent losses.
