Matt Reeves, the director, has disclosed the complete roster for The Batman Part II, confirming several actors that had been the subject of speculation. The sequel, one of the most eagerly awaited titles, has been in development for four years. The original film proved a major hit, securing Robert Pattinson as a favourite Batman and boosting Reeves’ standing considerably. While Reeves previously earned acclaim for Cloverfield and the Planet of the Apes series, delivering a critically praised Batman film represents a different level of achievement.
For a long time supporters have wondered what direction the plot of The Batman Part II will take and which performers will join the ensemble, and now a clearer picture is emerging. Over the past two days Reeves has been gradually unveiling the returning cast, and we have compiled a full list of actors and their respective parts. Although the studio has not disclosed the specific characters for the new arrivals, the casting announcements lend weight to existing rumours about their roles.
The addition of Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry came as the biggest surprise, as neither name had been linked to the project before. Their exact characters remain undisclosed, yet the narrative appears to centre on the Dent family in some capacity. While Harvey Dent traditionally transforms into the villainous Two-Face, the emphasis on other Dent relatives suggests a more complex storyline than expected. Reeves has hinted that the antagonist in this sequel is one that has not previously appeared on screen, indicating that the threat may be more unconventional.
Production on The Batman Part II is set to commence soon, and Reeves has recently confirmed that the story will unfold during winter, promising a snow-covered Gotham. Some fans interpreted this as a hint that Mr Freeze could appear, a possibility Reeves has alluded to before, but the current cast list does not clearly support that theory unless Koch or Henry are taking the role. Although the film already features a crowded roster, the first instalment introduced The Riddler, The Penguin and Carmine Falcone, so the inclusion of another iconic foe is not out of the question.
Two notable omissions stand out: Zoë Kravitz and Barry Keoghan, who portrayed Catwoman and the Joker respectively, are not listed among the returning actors. Kravitz’s absence is understandable, as her character departs Gotham at the conclusion of the opening film, though a brief cameo or a return in a later sequel cannot be ruled out. Keoghan’s Joker, meanwhile, has yet to be confirmed for a second appearance.
Speculation persists that Keoghan could reprise the Joker, yet a sequel pairing the Joker with Two-Face might not align with Reeves’ vision, recalling the dynamic explored in The Dark Knight back in 2008. More concrete details are likely to surface as production stills emerge in the coming weeks, while the first trailer is expected sometime next year.
The Batman Part II is scheduled to hit cinemas on 1 October 2027.
