CD Projekt Drops Cryptic Hint About Project Hadar, Its First Original IP, in New Job Listing

While CD Projekt pours most of its energy into The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, the Polish studio is quietly building something entirely fresh. Project Hadar, a new intellectual property that has stayed largely under wraps, is beginning to show signs of life through a recent job posting. For a company built on sprawling, story-driven worlds, the description might sound familiar.

As GamesRadar noted, a listing for an engineering director on Project Hadar seeks someone to help

“push the envelope for the next, immersive game in the Hadar world, creating an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers.”

That short pitch suggests CD Projekt wants Hadar to stand alongside The Witcher and Cyberpunk as a third major pillar, one that follows a similar playbook. Both existing franchises have sold tens of millions of copies, so the bar is set extraordinarily high. Still, the studio has reason to aim big. This marks its first wholly original IP after nearly two decades of adapting existing properties.

The timeline, however, remains distant. Early concept work kicked off in late 2021, yet the creative foundation was still being explored just a few years back. Today, as of June 4, 2026, Hadar sits in what CD Projekt calls “early pre-development.” Whether it unfolds in a fantasy realm, a sci-fi future, a contemporary setting, or some blend remains unknown. Single-player or multiplayer? The studio has not said.

The project is also tiny by CD Projekt standards. Just 24 people are assigned to Hadar, per the company’s latest financial disclosure. Compare that to the 513 developers on The Witcher 4, 163 on Cyberpunk 2, and 83 on Sirius, the multiplayer Witcher spinoff. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3 is receiving a brand new expansion, though Fool’s Theory is handling the bulk of that work. This expansion, titled Songs of the Past, has been officially described as a major story-rich addition rather than a traditional DLC.

CD Projekt’s slate is already staggering. The studio has laid out plans to release The Witcher 4, The Witcher 5, and The Witcher 6 within a six-year window, a strategy that effectively rules out any expansions for The Witcher 4. Cyberpunk 2 looms large as well. Where Hadar fits into that crowded roadmap is anyone’s guess.
