The upcoming Fable reboot has been pushed back to February 2027, Microsoft confirmed.
Players had been anticipating the RPG’s arrival this fall, though Xbox never pinned down an exact date. The shift to early 2027 comes as Microsoft juggles a packed calendar, including the looming arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6.
“This year is packed with incredible games for Xbox players to enjoy, from Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty to Grand Theft Auto VI,”
Xbox wrote in a tweet
.
“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.”
Rumors had been circulating since last month that Microsoft had quietly delayed Fable behind closed doors. The official Fable social media account pushed back against that talk at the time, insisting the game remained on track for its previously announced fall window.
Industry journalist Jeff Grubb reported in April that Microsoft harbored concerns about Fable competing directly with GTA 6, which now appears firmly set for November 19, 2026.
“I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally,”
Grubb said on his podcast, speaking prior to the official confirmation.
“That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently, they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. And so if it’s getting delayed beyond the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027. So while Xbox will have a lot of games coming out this year, that’s one that there’s still a big question mark around.”
Microsoft still needs to lock down several other release dates, including for upcoming Halo and Gears of War titles. Activision, which Microsoft owns, unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 yesterday with an October 23 launch date. The Xbox Player Voice feedback tool that Microsoft recently debuted has also sparked discussion among fans about the company’s broader strategy.
More clarity on Microsoft’s roadmap should emerge during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. The company has already confirmed the next Gears of War will appear, and attendees might see additional footage from InXile’s Clockwork Revolution, Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3, or possibly Hideo Kojima’s OD. The reported Xbox rebrand could also factor into how the company presents its lineup going forward.
