Jeff Fowler, director of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, has released a first look at Metal Sonic as filming on the sequel draws to a close.
The glimpse is intended more to whet the appetite of Sonic fans than to deliver a major revelation. Even though the sleek villain appeared in the previous film’s mid-credits scene, audiences had already expected his return after his ominous presence in the teaser trailer released in March.
“And that’s a wrap on #SonicMovie4!!!” Fowler said. “On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.”
Nevertheless, this early look at Metal Sonic confirms that Fowler is set to continue the Blue Blur’s saga in the spring. The previous instalment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which debuted in 2024, featured Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba) joining forces against Doctor Eggman (Jim Carrey) and the live-action newcomer Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
The mid-credits sequence not only introduced Metal Sonic but also hinted that the pink hedgehog Amy Rose would soon become part of the team. According to The Hollywood Reporter in February, she will be voiced by The Good Place and Frozen alum, Kristen Bell.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated for release in March 2027. While audiences await an official trailer and further details on Metal Sonic’s role, Fowler’s earlier post featuring an image of Amy’s Piko Piko hammer remains available. Readers can also explore speculation about which character the upcoming spin-off might centre on.
