Images of Xbox’s upcoming cloud gaming controller have been leaked online, revealing a design that differs significantly from the standard Xbox controller. The new controller, discovered by Technoblog, is much smaller than a typical Xbox controller, with a more compact design similar in size to a Joy-Con. It features all the expected buttons, including bumpers and triggers with slight grooves, which could provide a more comfortable grip.

The leaked images suggest that the controller will have rechargeable batteries, USB-C support, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is expected to be available in two colours: black and white. Although a release date has not been confirmed, such leaks often occur shortly before an official announcement. It’s possible that the controller will be showcased as part of Xbox’s summer event, with a potential release before the end of the year.

Microsoft is investing heavily in cloud gaming, and this new controller seems to be part of that strategy. The company is also working on its next-generation console, known as Project Helix. However, with the gaming market evolving, Xbox is positioning itself to exist beyond traditional consoles, with its cloud service allowing players to stream games to various devices, including smart TVs, mobile devices, and non-gaming computers.

The Xbox cloud gaming service has proven to be surprisingly fluid, allowing players to stream games to various devices. This service is becoming increasingly popular, with former Xbox boss Phil Spencer noting that cloud gaming hours were up 45% on console and 24% on other devices between 2024 and 2025. Releasing a compact controller to support this style of gaming seems like a natural next step.

Xbox’s strategy to expand its presence in the gaming market appears to be working. The company is exploring various ways to make its games accessible on different devices, including smart TVs and mobile phones. This approach could help Xbox maintain a strong presence in the gaming industry, even if the console market evolves.
