Apple locked out of UK, Italy F1 rights

Formula 1 Broadcasting Rights

The broadcast rights for Formula 1 in the US have been secured by Apple, with the competition being offered through its Apple TV+ streaming service. Although Apple has not officially announced plans to replicate this deal internationally, it is likely that the company has considered expanding into major markets.

Renewed Agreements

However, three key markets are no longer a consideration for Apple, as Sky has recently renewed its agreements for broadcasting F1 in the UK, Ireland, and Italy. The renewed contract will run until 2032 in Italy and 2034 in the UK and Ireland.

Apple won't be able to get F1 rights for the UK and Italy for at least six years

Sky, which was already the broadcaster in these markets, chose to renew its deal ahead of its expiry to avoid a bidding war with Apple or other potential bidders. The contract extension for the UK and Ireland is valued at approximately $270 million per year, or around $1.35 billion over the course of the deal.
