ArenaNet officially unveiled Guild Wars 3 during the Summer Game Fest showcase, revealing the next chapter of its long-running MMORPG franchise. The upcoming title is designed as an action RPG focused on fluid traversal, momentum-driven combat, and branching skill trees that offer deep customization. The game will support both keyboard and mouse setups as well as gamepad controllers.
The reveal trailer highlights the Vaelwarden, the player character, who is shown riding a massive wolf-like creature and scaling sheer cliff faces. Footage also provides a look at Orr, a sprawling region of Tyria where players must safeguard nature and spirits while navigating tensions between the world’s guilds. Guild Wars 3 is set one thousand years after the original game and introduces new magical concepts including Vael spirits and the Seeker, a force that binds players to the land itself. The trailer hinted at four-player cooperative play. You can watch the trailer below.
Studio head Colin Johanson addressed the team’s ambitions for the project.
Our approach with Guild Wars 3 is to push MMORPGs forward, to create an online game world that feels believable, rewarding, responsive, and innovative while at the same time respecting players’ time and providing a positive, supportive space to build community and enjoy new stories in our universe.
Guild Wars 2 launched fourteen years ago and continues to receive substantial updates, including the Visions of Eternity expansion that arrived in 2025. Following the series’ established model, Guild Wars 3 will launch without a mandatory subscription fee. The title is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam, marking the franchise’s first appearance on consoles. Players can register for updates at GuildWars3.com, with a beta test scheduled for Fall 2027. Stay tuned for more announcements from Summer Game Fest 2026.
